CB5: Isaac Yiadom

Isaac Yiadom has certainly not endeared himself to Broncos Country through his first two seasons in the league, but he’s shown some substantial mental toughness.

Yiadom is the Broncos’ returning leader in snaps played at the cornerback position, although not entirely by choice for the coaching staff.

He was replaced once by De’Vante Bausby, then again by Davontae Harris.

Somehow, someway, Yiadom made his way back into the starting lineup late in the season in Drew Lock’s first start against the Chargers — the same team Yiadom was benched against (for a second time) earlier in the season.

Yiadom was drafted by a different coaching staff entirely in 2018, so most of his advocates on the coaching staff went out the door after his rookie season. The fact that Yiadom was benched twice in 2019 and re-inserted into the starting lineup says something for his chances in 2020.

He showed the coaching staff that he can bounce back from poor play, and he also became an asset on special teams.

Yiadom may not be everyone’s favorite cornerback right now, but he notched all four of his PBUs in the final three games of the 2019 season, including a touchdown-saving pass breakup against the Raiders.

He lost his cool against Oakland in the season finale and almost lost the Broncos the game (he wasn’t wrong), but he’s a tough customer who bounced back from adversity, and that could help him leading into 2020.
