CB2: Michael Ojemudia

The Denver Broncos used their first of three third-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft on Michael Ojemudia out of Iowa, and there’s no doubt about it — he’s going to have to play in 2020.

All throughout the draft process, Ojemudia was considered an early day three type of guy, but the Broncos took him with the 77th overall pick. That caught a number of people by surprise, but the more you dissect Ojemudia’s tape, the more this pick made sense.

Ojemudia is the biggest cornerback on the roster — the only one over six feet tall and 200 pounds. As Jim Nagy notes in his Twitter post, that kind of size is a factor in today’s NFL against bigger, more physical receivers, and the Broncos now have a guy who loves to be physical and can match guys with size and length.

Ojemudia tested incredibly well athletically at the Scouting Combine and showed over the course of his career at Iowa that he can play all types of coverage, specifically excelling in Phil Parker’s primarily zone defense.

He attacks in the running game with confidence, and even though he’s a rookie, I think he’s in line to be the CB2 for Denver in 2020.
