Denver Broncos: Predicting Von Miller, Bradley Chubb’s 2020 sack total
It took the Denver Broncos several weeks to register a single sack in 2019. How many will Von Miller and Bradley Chubb combine for?
The two-man band is getting back together. After a season that saw just half of the Von Miller-Bradley Chubb duo perform for the Denver Broncos, 2020 will hopefully be filled with a lot of excitement and dominance.
That’s right: Miller and Chubb will share the field for hopefully all of the 2020 NFL season, and be as dominant, or even more dominant than they were as a duo in 2018.
Following the loss of Chubb for the season in 2019 due to a torn ACL, Miller had a down year. A down year for what we are used to from him, anyways. He snatched just eight sacks.
Now, with both of them set to play alongside each other, the expectation is that they will move past 2019 and be what they were in 2018, but 2020 style. They hope to show the world that they can exceed expectations.
To many Broncos fans, it was a shock to see Chubb available after four picks had went off the board in the 2018 NFL draft. But we wouldn’t want it any other way.
In 2018, the two pass rushers combined for 26.5 sacks, both surpassing 10 sacks on the year.
Now, in a new year, they hope to be even better.
This year could be a special year for the duo. I know that things are different right now due to the uncertainty of the NFL season, and even the status of training camp. But this may be a way of showing that these two players are even better than we thought. (Is that possible?!)
I think that facing a rookie right tackle is a great way to start the season. The Titans drafted Isaiah Wilson to replace Jack Conklin. It is better to face key rookies earlier because of their lack of experience. That should play a factor in this game.
In Week 2, the Broncos face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who previously had Mike Munchak as their offensive line coach.
This Steelers team is not what it used to be. Ben Roethlisberger is getting older and less mobile. This should play a factor in Miller and Chubb’s success against Pittsburgh. Despite Roethlisberger being very difficult to bring down, I can see both pass rushers getting to him.
The Broncos host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year. Or should I say TOMpa Bay Buccaneers? Brady was sacked 27 times last year. The Buccaneers allowed 47 sacks in 2019. That is unfortunate…
For them.
We saw a little bit of decline from Brady last year with the New England Patriots, and starting fresh with a new team altogether is never easy. It should not be a piece of cake for Brady either, who will turn 43-years old in August.
The Buccaneers drafted Tristan Wirfs in the first round of this year’s draft. The success of Denver’s dominant pass rushers in this game will be interesting to watch against the first-rounder.
The Broncos will more than likely face a decent number of rookie right tackles during the 2020 season, including the ones I listed above. I honestly think that they will both have a good time against those rookies.
As for an overall sack total for the year, this could be another 18-sack season for Miller, who reached 18.5 sacks in just his second year in the league.
Chubb could potentially be slightly better than he was as a rookie, and I’ll put his sack total to 13.5.
If this ends up being the case, it would be proof that the Miller-Chubb duo is one of, if not the best in the league at this time.
Thank you, Denver Broncos, for drafting these two excellent pass rushers in the top five of the NFL draft. Fans are thrilled to be able to witness such greatness.
