Week 4: at Atlanta Falcons

The rumor for a while was that the game between the Broncos and Falcons was set to take place as one of the International games in 2020. It would have marked the first time the Broncos played a game overseas since 2010 when they played the San Francisco 49ers. It would prove to be one of the last games of the Josh McDaniels era as he would pull a “Spygate-type act.”

However, the NFL announced that there would be no International games this season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the Broncos instead will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons.

This will mark the first time the Broncos will visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Falcons moved into their new home during the 2017 season after spending 25 years at the Georgia Dome.

Atlanta would mark as the second NFC South opponent the Broncos have faced. And perhaps one they have a lot of history with. The Broncos and Falcons faced off in Super Bowl 33, with the Broncos winning in what would be John Elway’s final game to complete back-to-back Super Bowl title wins.

Both teams since then have recently been back to the Super Bowl, with Denver winning Super Bowl 50 and the Falcons falling short one year later.
