Austin Fort

Undrafted out of Wyoming, Austin Fort was a longshot to make the roster last season but he had one heck of a summer until a freak injury in the preseason ended his year.

Fort looked good in camp and some were suggesting that he could sneak onto the 53-man roster and at the absolute worse, the practice squad. He had caught three passes for 28 yards in the preseason but in the team’s second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, he tore his ACL.

That not only ended the young man’s season, but it stunted his growth and put him behind the proverbial 8-ball to ever make the team.

But Fort is still on the roster and will have a chance to show that he has fully recovered from the injury and he is ready to make a push for a roster spot again.

There are more names to overcome now and the odds of him making the team will be much slimmer.

Fort has good size at 6-foot-4 and he could become a red-zone target down the road for the team. In college, he only caught 17 total passes but four of those wound up in the end zone. That’s not bad for a guy who came to Wyoming as a quarterback and still has much to learn about being a professional tight end, allowing him to grow into the position.
