Running Backs

Phillip Lindsay, Melvin Gordon, Royce Freeman (3)

The running back position is going to be a lot of fun to witness during Broncos games in 2020 and beyond.

Can Phillip Lindsay get to 1,000 rushing yards for a third-straight season? That would be so great. However, it may be unlikely.

The Broncos signed free agent running back Melvin Gordon this offseason and figures to be the bell-cow at the position. We do not know how many seasons Phillip Lindsay can handle as the top guy, and it seems likely that we won’t see that happen in 2020, and probably as long as Gordon is on the roster and healthy.

Adding Gordon was a necessity. The Broncos did not have much aside from Lindsay prior to Gordon’s arrival. Adding Gordon also freed up the team’s options in the NFL Draft.

As for Royce Freeman, I think that the presence of Lindsay and Gordon will put Freeman in a role similar to Devontae Booker’s in 2019. Booker played just 2.56 percent of the team’s snaps.
