Quarterbacks

Drew Lock, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien (3)

Will they or won’t they keep three quarterbacks on the roster? Here’s the thing. Drew Lock? Obvious lock. See what I did there? Jeff Driskel, brought in to be Lock’s backup.

General manager John Elway, if it wasn’t obvious enough, has gone all-in on Drew Lock as the future of the franchise. There is absolutely no reason to believe otherwise.

There had been speculation about the team signing another veteran to compete but that was all just a bunch of fluff. Not happening.

Now the interesting thing here is whether or not they are going to keep Brett Rypien, who was picked up as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State in 2019. The Broncos really liked Rypien when they signed him last year following the 2019 NFL Draft. They did not want him to sign with another team. They didn’t want him to get away.

Now I do not know if their feelings toward him are the same as they were last year, but unless they’ve seen something they did not like from him last year during training camp practices, I see no reason why they would cut ties with him or put him on the practice squad, risking the possibility of losing him to another team.

The NFL is adding two roster spots to each team, going from 53 to 55, and this could be an interesting position to use one of those additional roster spots.
