Denver Broncos: Get to know the team’s 2020 UDFA class
Essang Bassey, cornerback, Wake Forest
The Broncos brought in one of the more underrated cornerbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft class after the draft was over in Essang Bassey.
Bassey is not the biggest cornerback prospect at 5-foot-9, 191 pounds, but he’s a twitched-up athlete with really good speed (4.46 in the 40-yard dash) and some of the best production of any cornerback in the 2020 class.
As a matter of fact, Bassey finished his tremendous career at Wake Forest with 50 passes defended and five interceptions. He finished with 12.5 tackles for loss, so he also showed he can play around the line of scrimmage.
Bassey is a threat to earn nickel duties at some point in the future, near or distant. The Broncos got themselves a gem here, no question.
Kendall Hinton, wide receiver, Wake Forest
A converted quarterback, Kendall Hinton is one of the Broncos’ most fascinating undrafted free agent pickups and a player worth keeping an eye on.
Playing the slot for the Demon Deacons this past season, Hinton caught 73 passes for 1,001 yards and four touchdowns.
With just one season as a full-time receiver, it’s understandable that Hinton went undrafted, especially in a class like this, but he put some highlight-reel plays on tape and showed an advanced understanding of running routes for a one-year receiver.
Don’t sleep on this guy making an impression. As a former quarterback, Hinton knows what QBs like from their receivers and he’s got some really nice skills to work with as a potential slot and possession receiver.
