Tim Patrick and DaeSean Hamilton

When the Broncos decided to take Jerry Jeudy in the first round of the draft and then follow that up with the selection of K.J. Hamler in round two, it became crystal clear that the Broncos wanted a new look in the wide receiver room.

That is not good news for the likes of Tim Patrick and DaeSean Hamilton, two guys who have had their chances to make an impact and just haven’t done it.

Last season, Patrick and Hamilton combined for 44 catches. The Broncos are likely hoping that the combination of Jeudy and Hamler will double that output, at the very least.

The Broncos used one of their two available spots to bring a player off of injured reserve last season on Patrick. He’s a big, athletic target to throw the ball to, but there’s nothing he’s great at and he is far too inconsistent.

Inconsistent might be the middle name of Hamilton, the team’s fourth-round pick just two years ago. He just hasn’t been able to get into a regular flow with the Broncos and seems to be a marginal player at best.

Both of these guys will still have a chance to make next year’s roster as the depth at wide receiver, despite the first two picks of the draft being used on that position, is still not great. But it is entirely possible that at least one of these guys won’t be around next season.
