The Denver Broncos selected an athletic linebacker in Wake Forest’s Justin Strnad who has big upside on day three.

The Denver Broncos selected Justin Strnad out of Wake Forest in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Strnad is a very good fit for the NFL defenses that require those tweeners and versatile weapons. He will come into a defense that already includes Todd Davis and AJ Johnson as starters with possible elite coverage skills. Denver is known for selecting high-risk players that dealt with injuries at some point in college.

Strnad dealt with a bicep injury in October 2019, but he’s healthy and recovered now and there is a potential with Strnad inside or outside. It will be very interesting to see the plan for him in Vic Fangio’s scheme. Fangio loves versatility in his defense and a player that screams starter down the road. Strnad made not necessary be one right away, but on passing downs, I love the idea to put Strnad in as the coverage linebacker. The Denver Broncos have needed a coverage player in the draft at linebacker.

Darius Leonard is one of the players that Justin Strnad likes to watch, Leonard is more physical, but if he can come close to him he will be a stud in the NFL. In a division that will boast speed every week on offense, Denver needed to make it a point of emphasis to cover running backs and tight ends like Travis Kelce. Strnad is one of the draft picks that may not start right away. But there’s a good chance it can happen sooner rather than later.

Vic Fangio has coached the likes of Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, and Navorro Bowman in San Francisco and Elway gives him a guy with makings to be a possible starter right away. The area where Strnad can contribute right away is on special teams.

In the NFL, special teams are how players make a name for themselves. Terrell Davis made a huge hit on a kickoff to catch the eye of Mike Shanahan back when he was a rookie, and the rest is history. It takes one play to make a difference and get noticed. For Strnad, this was a solid spot for him and his future prospects.
