McTelvin Agim will fit nicely on Broncos defensive line
The Broncos selected DT McTelvin Agim in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Here is why Agim will fit in with the already stout Denver defensive line.
The final pick for the Denver Broncos on day three of the 2020 NFL Draft would belong to the defense as they selected DL McTelvin Agim with the 95th pick, wrapping up an already successful day after acquiring the likes of WR KJ Hamler, CB Michael Ojemudia, and C Lloyd Cushenberry.
While John Elway has done a phenomenal job addressing the needs of the Broncos so far, it never hurts to beef up an already good position, and the Denver Broncos did just that with their selection of Agim. A senior out of Arkansas, McTelvin Agim weighs in at 309 lbs with 33 1/2″ arms. He is a big guy and provides nice size for the Broncos’ defensive line, which he will be a very nice fit for.
While Agim only played one full season at defensive tackle after converting from defensive end, he amassed 9.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss.
Though NFL analyst Lance Zierlein credits Agim for his experience, ability to force fumbles, awareness, and spin counter ability, he sees Agim as a “work in progress”, citing that Agim needs to improve his awareness, technique and play strength.
Overall, Agim will likely need to develop before he is moved into a starting position, and luckily, he was drafted in a good place for defensive linemen to develop.
Agim will have the opportunity to develop under the likes of guys like Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell, and Jurrell Casey, a pretty good crew to study under as a rookie. While it is not likely that Agim will start as a rookie, he will probably have a year to develop his skill-set and will likely be mostly utilized in rotation or in situational football in Vic Fangio’s defensive system.
Even if Agim does not see a lot of the field in 2020, he will be a great future asset for the Denver Broncos and really will complement the play-makers on this defensive line well. He will get the opportunity to gel with this defensive line and will really add a nice finishing touch.
It is also important to keep in mind that while Agim will not only complement this defensive line, he will likely replace a starter in 2021, with Harris and Purcell on one-year contracts in 2020.
Overall, this pick was a good one for the Denver Broncos, and it will be fun to see how well McTelvin Agim fits in with an already stout Broncos’ front seven.
