Who did the Denver Broncos want to trade up for?

Word came out Thursday evening that the Denver Broncos tried to trade up back into the first round of the NFL Draft.

When the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft came to an end on Thursday evening, the Denver Broncos came away with one of the top three receivers in the class—Alabama Crimson Tide receiver Jerry Jeudy.

But they wanted to add more than just Jeudy to their roster on opening night.

Broncos General Manager John Elway said following the draft that the team tried to trade back into the first round, eyeing another one of the top players. So, who could that player have been?

Well, first, it would be helpful to know exactly who they wanted to trade with. How far up into the first round would they have been?

It is possible that as they were trying to make their move, a player that they were eyeing had just been taken. Maybe that is a reason that they didn’t get a deal done.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Denver Post guessed that it would have been LSU linebacker Patrick Queen, who was taken by the Baltimore Ravens.

That would have been a lot of fun if Queen were to end up on the Broncos roster. It would have also been nice to have Queen because of his speed (4.5-40 yard dash) and ability to cover tight ends and running backs.

Auburn cornerback Noah Igbinoghene may have been another target of Denver’s. The Broncos could use a physical presence in the defensive backfield. They need cornerback at some point in this draft. If they were able to get back into the first round, I absolutely could have seen them take Igbinoghene.

The Broncos also have a need at the center position. The New Orleans Saints took Michigan center Cesar Ruiz 24th overall.

It is also possible that a player that they targeted did not even get drafted in the first round.

With the next two rounds about to happen Friday night, there are still some solid options for the Denver Broncos to look at. A popular name at the center position regarding Denver is LSU’s Lloyd Cushenberry. While the Broncos are content with rolling with their current center situation, if they see Cushenberry as a reasonable get, they should do it.

Wyoming linebacker Logan Wilson and Southern Illinois safety Jeremy Chinn are also players that would fit nicely on the roster and be able to make a strong impact at some point.

Next. Why Jerry Jeudy is a perfect fit for the Broncos offense. dark

I have a feeling that day two of the NFL Draft is going to be a lot of fun. The Denver Broncos have four picks in the next two rounds, as it stands right now. They could add some very high-quality players two days in a row.
