No. 1: Cornerback

If you want to buy into Bryce Callahan, DeVante Bausby and Isaac Yiadom as a serviceable trio in the secondary, that’s fine, but right now, I’m not going to.

All three of those guys will likely be fine in sub-packages but the Broncos need a better option at the No.2 cornerback spot next to A.J. Bouye. The NFL is still a passing league and the Broncos still have to face the likes of Mahomes and Tyreek Hill, Keenan Allen and a potential wide receiver being selected in the first round by the Las Vegas Raiders four times per season.

The Broncos lost Chris Harris and though they traded for Bouye, there is more to do to repair the secondary than to hope Callahan can actually take the field this year. Besides, Callahan would serve the team best as a No. 3 guy in the slot.

Kristian Fulton and C.J. Henderson are two players the Broncos could target at the No. 15 spot and in trade-back options toward the bottom of the first round, Jaylon Johnson and Jeff Gladney could come in and help the team.

This might be a hard sell for some fans who will argue that a guy like Bolles is a bigger potential weakness than Callahan, but you also have to look at the teams the Broncos will play against next season and beyond.

If the Broncos ever want to end the long losing streak to the Chiefs and overtake them in the AFC West, they have to find a way to shut down that team’s vaunted passing attack.

Other teams in the division could be dangerous in that area too.

The Broncos went to the Super Bowl and won it in large part because of the team’s “No Fly Zone”. They need a group like that again to get back to the top.
