Fourth Overall (Giants) – Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson

Pick made by Andrew Wade – Contributor

At pick #4, the Giants stay put and select Clemson do-it-all defensive player Isaiah Simmons to be one of the key anchors of their defense. Simmons is truly a unicorn in this draft as he has the size (6’4’’and 238 pounds) to play linebacker while possessing the speed (4.39 40-yard dash) and coverage skills to play slot corner at the next level.

At Clemson, he could be found at linebacker, slot corner, outside corner, safety and even edge rusher and with Patriots disciple Joe Judge at the helm, a guy like this would be too intriguing to pass up even with trade-down opportunities.

Furthermore, Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman is one of the most predictable guys in the NFL. He has never traded down in his tenure as the General Manager of the Panthers or Giants and he loves the front seven of the defense.

Despite the possibility of drafting a tackle here, this Dave Gettleman quote (if you read the article, clearly I am interpreting the quote the exact opposite of the New York Post) leads me to believe that tackle is an option the Giants would rather explore in round 2 or 3.
