31st Overall Pick (49ers) – Ross Blacklock, DL, TCU

The 49ers have one of the league’s more complete rosters with few holes. The plan here was to take Jaylon Johnson to pair with Richard Sherman in the secondary but when the Titans grabbed him two picks earlier, plans changed.

This is a pick that could easily be traded, perhaps to a team like the Houston Texans, who have no first-round pick.

Staying put with the pick, the Niners attempt to address one major loss from the offseason, that being DeForest Buckner, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts.

An athletic interior defensive lineman, Blacklock doesn’t flash as stout against the run, but he is abnormally quick and for an interior defender, is an above-average pass rusher. He would have a long way to go to make up for the production lost when Buckner left, but he would be an upgrade over the other defensive linemen on the roster.

A starting defensive line of Blacklock, Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas looks pretty good to start the season with.
