2020 NFL Draft: Broncos go defense in final first-round mock draft
By Tylor Walden
27th Overall (Seahawks) – Yetur Gross-Matos , EDGE, Penn State
Pick made by Matty Mulls – Contributor
As of the time of the mock draft, Jadeveon Clowney is not signed for the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have a need for offensive line help (Russell Wilson just took another hit as I started writing this) and edge rusher help.
There were other good offensive linemen available (Josh Jones, Ezra Cleveland, Austin Jackson) but I decided to go with the defensive side of the line. This is a division that pushes out Jimmy Garoppolo (off a Super Bowl appearance), Jared Goff (two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance), and Kyler Murray (fresh off a Rookie of the Year season). The Seahawks need somebody to get after those guys.
I got a little bit of slack for taking Gross-Matos here instead of AJ Epenesa but I went with the Penn State product due to the consistent links between Seattle and Gross-Matos. Yetur has exceptional length with an 82.25 inch wingspan (which Pete Carroll values) and is explosive on the edge. Standing at six feet five inches and weighing in at 266 pounds, he is solid in the running game but has a high ceiling as a pass rusher.
He tallied nine sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss last year. His best tape was against the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes in a game that he had nine tackles (five solo) and two sacks.
