17th Overall (Patriots via Cowboys) – Jordan Love, QB, Utah State

Pick made by Travis Wakeman – Site Expert

Trade Details: Patriots trade 23rd, 98th, and 100th overall to Cowboys for 17th overall

The Patriots traded up from No. 23 to obtain this pick with the Dallas Cowboys and though many will suggest that trade as being unnecessary, Bill Belichick could care less because he was interested in getting ahead of the Raiders right here so that they wouldn’t steal his guy.

Jarrett Stidham is nothing more than a stop-gap option for the Pats after losing the legendary Tom Brady to free agency, so the Patriots look to start a new run with the talented and uber-exciting (in terms of potential) Love.

The Patriots know full well what the future of the quarterback position looks like and he wears No. 15 for the Kansas City Chiefs. This is in no way to say that Love is the next Patrick Mahomes, but his arm strength, ability to throw from many angles and just over-the-top overall arm talent make him a succulent selection.

If any team can afford to make this pick, it’s this one and if he is going to be the star that many feel he could be, this is the team to bring it out.
