Todd Davis

Todd Davis can be a serviceable linebacker, but the Broncos have seen the best that he has to offer and on passing downs, it’s just not good enough. The same goes for Josey Jewell, the guy who would, at least under the current shape of the roster, be battling Davis for a starting role.

The Broncos need a three-down linebacker to pair with the trio of Von Miller, Bradley Chubb and Alexander Johnson.

Oklahoma’s Kenneth Murray, who I gave to the Broncos in this mock draft, would be a guy who would easily leap Davis on the depth chart. But there are names further down the board such as Troy Dye and perhaps even Logan Wilson who could potentially crack the starting lineup as well.

The Broncos have had issues with covering tight ends for what seems like far too long. They need a player at this spot that can defend those tight ends as well as elusive slot receivers that creep over the middle and running backs that try to sneak out of the backfield for a reception.

Davis is a good tackler and is strong against the run, but he doesn’t hold up well against the pass. It’s gotten pretty tiring seeing Broncos linebackers get beat that way and the team could look to finally plug that hole in this draft.
