Broncos Mock Draft: Adding playmakers for Drew Lock
By Tylor Walden
Day Three Picks
Fifth Round
Cameron Brown – LB – Penn State
Depending on what the Broncos decide to do at the inside linebacker position, it would not hurt to have an inside linebacker helping out the cause. With the Broncos having such a problem covering the tight end position, Brown could be a solid prospect to draft in this round.
He does have a lot to work on, but if he is able to figure things out and improve on his weaknesses, he could be a great pick up. This is especially true if the Broncos are going to be facing Travis Kelce twice a year.
Sixth Round
Lamical Perine – RB – Florida
I have this strange feeling that the Broncos are going to trade Royce Freeman during the draft. It is not that he is a bad player. The issue comes in the running back room as it stands now. Melvin Gordon is set to be the bell-cow back and Phillip Lindsay will fill in as needed.
Either way, (more so if the trade does happen) the Broncos will need a solid running back that can help spell both Gordon and Lindsay if needed. LaMical Perine could be a solid addition to the Broncos backfield. His speed and ability to catch the ball make him a prime day three target.
Seventh Round
Jon Runyan – OT – Michigan
In this mock, this pick is the only selection of the seventh round. I had the Broncos trade their 253rd and 255th selection to the Jaguars to move up to the 224th overall pick. And for depth purposes, the Broncos go with an offensive tackle.
As long as I have followed football, the Denver Broncos do a great job in drafting offensive line players late in the draft. Tom Nalen, Matt Paradis, Connor McGovern to name a few that have been drafted in the later rounds have found success in Denver.
In the NFL, he could transition to the inside at guard or maybe at center. Some of his skillsets are not that strong. But perhaps he does turn it around in the NFL. But only time will tell. He should be a depth guy for the time being.
