Broncos Mock Draft: Adding playmakers for Drew Lock
By Tylor Walden
Second Round
Brandon Aiyuk – WR – Arizona State
I have the Broncos double-dipping at wide receiver with their first two picks of the draft. It is certainly not far fetched it happens. And with the way the board fell, there was a legitimate wideout still on the board.
While it would have been easier to get a cornerback or a safety, the pick to get another talented wide receiver could not be ignored. And that is what the Broncos would be getting with Brandon Aiyuk.
The speed and ability to get away from his defender has been noted a lot in scout’s evaluations. But what has really caught my eye about Aiyuk is his ability to catch short passes that go for three to four yards and find a way to get to the first down sticks.
I could easily see Aiyuk as the Broncos’ slot receiver and as a returner. Having him back there with Diontae Spencer could add a brand new dynamic to the Broncos’ special teams unit.
In any situation, I would not double-dip on a specific position. But with how the depth chart looks and how the board fell, having both Lamb and Aiyuk on the team makes the wide receiver unit that much stronger.
