The Denver Broncos ‘really like’ CeeDee Lamb and Denzel Mims, two top wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft, per The Athletic’s Dane Brugler.

The Denver Broncos will be in the market for a wide receiver early in the 2020 NFL Draft. As a matter of fact, it may be the team’s biggest need right now on the roster overall.

This is a great year to need a wide receiver with one of the best incoming rookie classes we have seen in some time. There may not be a true superstar prospect the caliber of a Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones, but there are a lot of really good players who are going to be studs in the NFL for a long time.

With that said, it would make sense if we started hearing reports about the Broncos taking a particular liking to a number of guys, but up to this point, the only player consistently connected to the Broncos has been Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III.

That is, until Dane Brugler of The Athletic dropped a seven-round mock draft in which the Broncos took one of Ruggs’ teammates — Jerry Jeudy — in the first round of his mock draft. Perhaps more enlightening than the selection itself was the intel Brugler shared.

"The Broncos are looking for another playmaker opposite Courtland Sutton and I hear they really like CeeDee Lamb and Denzel Mims. But they also really like Jerry Jeudy with his brake-and-balance skills to uncover at will mid-route.Dane Brugler, The Athletic"

Brugler does tremendous work on prospects every year, and his contacts list around the NFL has substantially grown in recent years. While some mock drafts are merely an educated guess (to a degree, they all are), mocks that come from people like Brugler or Todd McShay or Daniel Jeremiah are worth the time to sift through because those guys are all connected to NFL people.

They don’t always necessarily put together a mock draft based on what they would do, but rather what they have heard.

There’s a big difference.

And Brugler drops a nice nugget here for us that the Broncos really like Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb and Baylor’s Denzel Mims, and Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy for that matter.

What does this mean?

The Broncos aren’t being picky about this receiver class.

If they ‘really like’ Lamb, Jeudy, and Mims, it’s likely they also really like Henry Ruggs and Justin Jefferson. Maybe even deeper down the list than that.

Although the Broncos have been a popular trade up team in mock drafts because of their positioning in the draft order and need at receiver, I think it’s more likely we would see John Elway pop down the order a slight bit, pick up extra picks, and then maneuver around again to have multiple selections in the second and third round with fewer day three selections.

The Broncos are in need of impact players, and they have the capital to move around the board this year to get them.

Perhaps they would use some of their additional third-round picks to move up for a guy like Lamb, but if they ‘really like’ Denzel Mims as well, they won’t have to move up to get a wide receiver they feel can help them now.
