5. Safety/Linebacker

I’m not cheating by combining two positions into one need.

The Broncos need a linebacker, but they need a linebacker who can cover like a corner or safety. Is that too much to ask?

Luckily for Denver, players like this are being bred at the college level, led by the super-versatile Isaiah Simmons of Clemson and going down the line of prospects in this class to guys like Colorado’s Davion Taylor.

The Broncos have thumpers at inside linebacker. They have guys who can blitz and play the run. They need at least one guy who can cover really well.

They need a player like Southern Illinois’ Jeremy Chinn (Steve Atwater’s nephew) or Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kyle Dugger.

The Broncos lost Will Parks in free agency, and depending on how this year goes, they may only have one more season of Kareem Jackson. The Broncos need a hybrid type of defensive back who can play in the box, play in space, play the run, and generally fly around the field to make plays.

It’s a big ask, but there are a number of players in the 2020 NFL Draft with the potential to be effective in this kind of hybrid role.
