Bashaud Breeland, cornerback

For the life of me — and I’ve written this a number of times over the last three years — I can’t figure out why Bashaud Breeland hasn’t been able to find a stable home in the NFL.

A young cornerback with excellent ball skills and inside-outside versatility, Breeland has proven at every one of his stops in the NFL prior to the age of 28 that he is capable of making big plays in the secondary.

Playing this past season for the Kansas City Chiefs, Breeland started 15 games and the entire playoff run, picking off a total of three passes including both regular season and postseason play.

He has added value as an outside corner who can shift inside and play the nickel, where he’s actually a weapon as a blitzer as well as a solid cover man. He was sent on blitzes nine times by the Packers in 2018 and had three pressures.

He had a pair of tackles for loss in the Chiefs’ playoff run as well as an interception off of Jimmy  Garoppolo in the Super Bowl. Since he came into the league in 2014, Breeland has 72 pass breakups and 12 interceptions.

If the Broncos are not satisfied with their cornerback position, Breeland is only 28 and should have some really good football ahead of him for the next three years or so.
