RB Maurice Clarett – Drafted in 2005 (Third Round, 101st Overall)

This was a major head-scratcher at the time because of Clarett’s off-field history. Maurice Clarett was a great offensive weapon for the Ohio State Buckeyes. That is, if he was on the field.

Sadly, Ohio State only saw him on the field for one season in which the team won the National Championship. But he was involved with plenty of off the field issues that resulted in him being dismissed from the university. He worked with lawyers to make it so that he would be eligible for the 2005 NFL Draft.

He was successful and went to the scouting combine, where he stopped participating after recording slow times in the 40 yard dash. Plenty of analysts believed that he would be a late round pick, if drafted at all.

Denver decided to take him with the final pick of the third round. His issues continued in Denver, as he would never see the field during his time and spent time arguing with coaches. He would end up being cut by the Broncos without recording a single statistic.

No words can describe how terrible that is for a player selected within the first three rounds. Denver completely messed up on this pick.
