Devontae Booker, Running back

Booker gets a lot of heat from Broncos Country. As someone who was projected to go much earlier than where he went, many fans expected Devontae Booker to emerge as a weapon for the Broncos.

Unfortunately, Booker’s time in Denver was filled with a variety of issues (on the field). First, there was the fumbling. In his first game as a pro, he fumbled on a crucial drive and helped the Panthers secure an early lead. From that point on, it seemed like getting back in the graces of Broncos Country was an uphill battle for him.

In his tenure as a Bronco, Devontae Booker rushed for 1,103 yards, received 872 yards for 7 TDs. At an average of under 500 total yards and two 2 TD’s per season, his production doesn’t look that bad. What ultimately decides Booker’s time with the Broncos will be these two important stats- yards per carry (YPC) and fumbles.

Booker only averaged 3.8 yards per carry and had five fumbles in four years. Considering the importance of consistency and not turning the ball over, Booker has definitely under performed in the most important areas of his position.

With that said, he was just an okay pick. While we were hoping more from him as a running back, he did provide decent versatility as a pass catching back and Special teams player. We have to remember that he was a Day 3 pick, after all.  If he were picked any higher, the grade would be much lower.
