Inside linebacker

The Broncos were fortunate to get what they got out of Alexander Johnson last season and may have discovered a diamond in the rough in the process.

Yet many fans have talked about how the Broncos have not had a great middle linebacker in what seems like forever. Whether or not Johnson becomes that guy remains to be seen, but the team could still find an upgrade over the likes of Todd Davis and Josey Jewell.

Both Davis and Jewell can be fine players, but why settle for fine when you could be dominant at a position. Kenneth Murray, a linebacker who played at Oklahoma, is a guy that has been placed in Denver in some of the mock drafts that are out there.

Murray would be an upgrade over Davis and Jewell and he is a sideline to sideline linebacker who is a terrific tackler.

The Broncos could pass on Murray for a bigger position of need, as inside linebacker probably isn’t the biggest concern on the roster, but at the same time, if he is on the board (and he probably will be), it would not be hard to justify the selection.

A linebacking corps of Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Johnson and Murray could be a nightmare for opponents to deal with. And keep in mind, linebackers are Fangio’s thing.

If Fangio could turn that foursome into the new version of the “Dome Patrol” that he created in the 1980s with the New Orleans Saints, the Broncos could have the league’s best defense.

And if he had those four guys, there’s no reason why he couldn’t.
