Marcus Johnson

The Indianapolis Colts chose not to tender a contract offer to Marcus Johnson, making him an unrestricted free agent. This would be a major under-the-radar move for the Broncos, but he quietly played quite well down the stretch last season.

Undrafted out of Texas in 2016, Johnson played two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks. Before the 2018 season even started, the Seahawks traded him to the Colts.

He started the 2019 season on the Colts’ practice squad before being promoted to the active roster later in the year, playing in every game starting in Week 10. He had a big game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14, catching three passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

For the season, he averaged 16.3 yards per catch.

Johnson’s body of work is small but shows the traits of being a very capable No. 3 option for the team. It was quite a surprise to see the Colts allow him to hit the market.

He is still just 25 years old and the Broncos could likely get him on a cheap deal. Great gems are found by the teams that dig around for them the hardest and Johnson has the athletic traits to be one of those players.
