Denver Broncos vs. Cincinnati Bengals: September 13, 2009

Although the 2009 Broncos season would prove to be forgettable after starting off 6-0 and finishing 8-8 in Josh McDaniels’ only season as a head coach, this game was far from that.

As the clock winded down in the fourth quarter, we saw the Broncos trailing the Cincinnati Bengals 7-6. The Broncos, with Kyle Orton under center, struggled to get anything going, and after an incomplete pass to Brandon Marshall, they faced second down with just 28 seconds remaining.

The ball was snapped to Orton in shotgun formation, and it was another pass to Marshall toward the sideline. The Broncos’ fate seemed sealed as Marshall struggled to find his footing and the pass looked like it would likely be picked off.

However, magic happened. The ball was deflected to wide receiver Brandon Stokely, who evaded all defenders as he took it to the house for an 87-yard touchdown to give the Broncos a 12-7 lead.

Tight end Tony Scheffler was put on the field to play defense on a Hail Mary attempt and would seal the win for the Broncos with a game-ending interception.
