The Broncos most underrated free agency signing last season did not see the field. Therefore, restructuring the contract of Bryce Callahan was a smart move.
One of the most underrated signings for the Denver Broncos last season was getting Bryce Callahan to come in and play for Vic Fangio. From what was being said, he was a great cornerback who could play inside or outside, and that is something the Broncos were looking for since the trade of Aqib Talib.
Sadly though, the Broncos never saw him get on the field. He was still recovering from a foot injury and then ran into an issue with the screw in his foot and ended up sitting out the entire year.
For a position that struggled, it was tough not seeing Callahan on the field to find out if the position could improve.
John Elway and the Denver Broncos decided on Sunday that the team would restructure Bryce Callahan’s contract. Last season, he made $6.5 million. Mike Klis provides the details of the restructure.
From what is being said here, Callahan has his salary cut in half as well as his per game bonus. This was a good move by the Denver Broncos. It was in fact pretty generous since he did not play a down with the Broncos last season.
I believe this restructure should be taken as a prove it season for Bryce Callahan. Since he did not get on the field in 2019, he will have to show that there was a reason behind the Broncos signing him.
And he has a great opportunity ahead of him. With the cornerback position a bit of a messy situation, this could allow Callahan to emerge during the offseason and become a starter or see the field more often.
We will know for sure once the season begins. Here is to hoping that Bryce Callahan can stay healthy and provide a big boost to the secondary position in Denver.
