Linebacker

Will the Broncos pay $10 million per year or more for an off-ball linebacker?

It’s possible.

There were some interesting figures being thrown out at top free agent linebackers on day one of the free agent negotiating period, and they’re worth considering as we move into day two, where the Broncos are reportedly looking to upgrade at the position.

  • Kyle Van Noy, Miami Dolphins (4 years, $51 million — $12.75M AAV)
  • Blake Martinez, New York Jets (4 years, $40 million — $10M AAV)
  • Jamie Collins, Detroit Lions (3 years, $30 million — $10M AAV)
  • Nick Kwiatkoski, Las Vegas Raiders (3 years, $21 million — $7M AAV)
  • Christian Kirksey, Green Bay Packers (2 years, $13 million — $6.5M AAV)
  • AJ Klein, Buffalo Bills (3 years, $18 million — $6M AAV)

The top player at the linebacker position going into free agency was undoubtedly Los Angeles Rams free agent Cory Littleton. He’s still expected to get the richest deal of the crop, perhaps coming in at or over $15 million per season.

Behind him is Cleveland’s Joe Schobert, who has long been rumored to be a potential Broncos target. He should get at least $10 million per season.

Aside from those two guys, who would the Broncos really prioritize in free agency that would be an upgrade over Todd Davis? That’s the big question. If the Broncos are going to free agency for linebacker, it’s probably going to be one of those top two guys left.
