Denver Broncos: Looking back on team’s history with No. 15 overall pick
The Denver Broncos will select at No. 15 in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.
Obviously, that is a pick in the top half of the first round, but it can also be a precarious position. Unless a team has multiple needs, there is always a good chance that many of the team’s desired potential draft picks are already off the board.
That puts the No. 15 slot as a prime position to trade out of.
Looking back at the last five drafts, teams have come away with a mixed bag with the No. 15 overall pick. Take a look at the last five players drafted at that spot.
- 2015: Melvin Gordon, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
- 2016: Corey Coleman, WR, Cleveland Browns
- 2017: Malik Hooker, S, Indianapolis Colts
- 2018: Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA
- 2019: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Washington
In each of those cases, those teams got players that filled immediate needs. The Chargers traded up a few spots to select Gordon and now, he is ready to hit free agency.
The jury is still out on the careers of Hooker, Miller and Haskins, but Coleman was a complete bust. So clearly, teams could find a little bit of everything at this slot in the draft.
The Broncos have selected a player at No. 15 in the first round four times in team history. You’ll see here that for the most part, these picks worked out pretty well. The team has found solid contributors and even all-time great players in team history with the No. 15 overall pick.
