Denver Broncos 2020 free agency wish list: Upgrades all over
Recap
Let’s say that the Broncos were somehow able to fulfill this entire wish list and remain under the cap comfortably for the 2020 NFL Draft.
It would give them a free agent class that, for the most part, looked like this:
- Justin Simmons, S
- AJ Bouye (Trade), CB
- DJ Reader, DL
- Javon Hargrave, DL
- Jordan Howard, RB
- Eric Ebron, TE
- BJ Finney, C
- Mike Remmers, G/T
- Marcus Mariota, QB
- De’Vante Bausby, CB
- Mike Purcell, DL
- Elijah Wilkinson, G
That kind of free agent class would allow the Broncos to take a wide receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, or truly take the best player on their board at pick 15 overall and go after a receiver in round two.
Notably missing from this free agent list? Linebacker.
The Broncos do not have to sign a free agent linebacker, as there are many players in the 2020 NFL Draft to consider who could push for starting jobs right away.
The Broncos also have to calculate whether or not a free agent coming in would be a substantial upgrade over Todd Davis and worth the price they would have to pay to both sign the player and cut or trade Davis.
John Elway could also throw a curveball and decide he wants to use the NFL Draft to upgrade a variety of areas, cut out the signings of Jordan Howard, Eric Ebron, and Marcus Mariota, and sign a player like Amari Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys, should he reach the market.
Or maybe Sammy Watkins would come into play as a cap casualty.
There are certainly many scenarios the Broncos could look at right now but Elway loves to fill needs using free agency, and this would definitely accomplish that.
