Jason Peters, LT, Philadelphia Eagles

The moment it was announced that the Eagles would allow Jason Peters to enter free agency, fans of the Broncos immediately started imagining the Pro Bowl left tackle coming to Denver.

That might be pretty cool if it was 10 years ago. Even five years ago. Not now.

Peters is 38 years old and his best days are behind him. Even so, a team desperate for help at left tackle is going to shell out the cash for him because of the fact that he has been selected to nine Pro Bowls in his career while being a consistent blindside protector in Philadelphia.

Undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004, Peters has carved out quite the career for himself, becoming one of the top offensive linemen of the last 15 years while making 195 career starts. There is a reason the Eagles are letting him walk, however.

Many fans feel that a replacement for Garett Bolles is perhaps the team’s biggest need and finding a quality left tackle is not going to be easy to do.

Anthony Castonzo, easily the cream of the crop at the position on the free-agent market, is reportedly going to be returning to the Indianapolis Colts.

There are solid options in the first round of the draft including Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills and Tristan Wirfs, but at least two of those players will likely be off the board by the time the Broncos go on the clock and if the Broncos take a tackle in the first round, they will miss out on one of the draft’s top wide receivers.

There is also the idea of trading for Trent Williams of the Washington Redskins, but we have discussed why that isn’t the best option either.

Still, the team should be able to work out a better plan than to sign the aging Peters.
