No one on the Broncos has openly admitted it, but I think the team was inches away last year from selecting Michigan linebacker Devin Bush with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Just before the Broncos were about to pull the trigger on Bush, they pulled off a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to get an extra second-round pick in 2019 as well as an extra third-round pick in 2020.

That trade has proven to be a wise move for the Broncos in the early goings as it resulted in the team getting all three of Noah Fant, Dalton Risner, and Drew Lock as opposed to just two, and we have yet to see what they will do with that 2020 third-round pick.

So why Kenneth Murray, and why at 15 overall?

First of all, Murray’s production is outstanding.

In three seasons at Oklahoma, he racked up 325 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and six pass breakups.

He can be utilized in such a wide variety of ways, but the things to like most about Murray go beyond the stat sheet. This guy is a captain and quarterback of the defense whose reputation is as a film junky and leader both on and off the field.

Murray seems like exactly the type of ‘guy’ the Broncos would want as the primary leader of their defense. With Todd Davis entering a contract year and Alexander Johnson a restricted free agent in 2021, the Broncos certainly want to have a captain in the middle of this defense for the foreseeable future.

Murray ran a 4.52 at 241 pounds and had an explosive 38.5-inch vertical jump along with 21 bench press reps and a 129-inch broad jump. This guy checks every box and would be a great pick at 15.
