Denver Broncos show interest in Javon Kinlaw at Combine
The Denver Broncos are showing interest in South Carolina defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine.
One of the Denver Broncos’ top needs in the 2020 offseason is on the defensive line, where they could be losing two of their top three starters last year in Derek Wolfe and Shelby Harris.
Vic Fangio’s defense relies heavily on the front four getting consistent pressure, so you can take it to the bank this offseason that the Broncos are going to be showing interest in both free agent defensive linemen as well as the strong crop of players available in the 2020 NFL Draft.
One of the best prospects in the 2020 class is South Carolina’s Javon Kinlaw, a senior prospect who finished this past season with 35 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and six sacks.
More than just his statistical production though, Kinlaw was one of the most consistently disruptive defensive linemen in college football over the last two seasons and he’s earned himself a top 15 status for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Although the Broncos could have a chance at him with pick 15, that seems like more of his floor in the 2020 draft than it does his most likely landing place.
Kinlaw’s measurables are absolutely ridiculous.
He looks like he was created in a defensive lineman lab. The misprint about having two left hands aside, this is pretty much as perfect as you could draw up an interior player, and Kinlaw has the athleticism to move around and play multiple positions.
Aside from Derrick Brown of Auburn, he might be the ideal guy in this draft class for the Broncos to target if they want to go with a defensive lineman in the first round.
Mike Klis of 9News in Denver is reporting that Kinlaw and the Broncos had an official meeting this week.
Kinlaw would be an outstanding addition for the Broncos. Regardless of what the team does in free agency, and they are expected to be active in pursuit of potential defensive line upgrades, there’s no question that Kinlaw will be a first-round option one way or the other.
He has an outstanding bull rush, quick hands, great length, and excellent quickness off the ball. There aren’t many ways this kid can’t win from the interior defensive line, and he’s just growing into his craft.
I think when all is said and done, the Broncos might have to trade into the top 10 if they want Kinlaw.
