Broncos will end Corey Nelson’s second stint with team

The Denver Broncos will let Corey Nelson test the free agency market after deciding that they will not bring back the former special teams standout.
Linebacker is going to be a need for the Denver Broncos during this offseason. However, it looks as if they are looking to re-tool the inside linebackers. They have started with special teams standout Corey Nelson.
According to Nicki Jhabvala, Corey Nelson will not be re-signed when free agency begins in March. To me, this comes as a bit of a surprise. With Denver looking to improve at the inside linebacker position. Nelson was very durable during the first stint. However, he left in free agency to get a starting spot.
After stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he found himself back in Denver. He was signed before the start of the season to help combat the injuries that Denver had at the linebacker position.
He did well up until he suffered a season ending biceps injury. Now Nelson will likely be looking for his fifth team in two years. He was able to record ten tackles during the eight weeks of his second stint in Denver.
This news most likely means Josey Jewell might get an increased role. I would look for him to have a role on special teams. But with the Denver Broncos exercising Todd Davis’ contract option, this move was likely a response to that.
Denver will be looking to improve on the inside linebacker position in the offseason. There are a few options in free agency but it would not surprise me if they looked at the draft as well.
But this does mark the end of Corey Nelson in Denver. A solid backup linebacker who had some moments in his two stints with the Broncos. Hopefully he will find a new home during the offseason.
