Broncos 2020 free agency profile: DT D.J. Reader
By Tylor Walden
With plenty of questions on the defensive side of the ball for the Broncos, one name to keep an eye on is Texans defensive tackle D.J. Reader.
When it comes to the Denver Broncos and the run defense, there was some inconsistency among that unit. Granted, the team had some solid players in Mike Purcell, Derek Wolfe, and Shelby Harris. One name that could be interesting in the interior front for the Broncos is Houston Texans defensive tackle D.J. Reader.
A couple of weeks ago, Sayre Bedinger mentioned him as one of the offseason moves that can help the Broncos contend with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, let us look more into how he could help out the Broncos defense.
There is no question that having him in the interior of the Broncos defense can create an impact. Reader has been known to be a solid run stopper and can create pressure from the inside. In my eyes, this is a player that I was hoping for if the team drafted Ed Oliver in the first round last offseason.
The Broncos could very well get that if they are able to sign D.J. Reader. And it seems as if he can fit the Broncos defensive scheme. With the uncertainty of Shelby Harris, Derek Wolfe, and Adam Gotsis, a player on the defensive line will really help the team get better.
The Broncos will have Von Miller and Bradley Chubb attacking from the corners as edge rushers. Why not have a player that can create that team up with the pass rushing duo and create some pressure from three points.
It would certainly add to the troubles that opposing quarterbacks will have to deal with. It would be the most underrated move the Broncos could make in the offseason if they are able to sign D.J. Reader in the offseason.
