Mock draft recap
The centerpieces of this mock draft are obviously WR Stefon Diggs and CB Darius Slay, the proven veteran playmakers.
I’m an advocate of trading mid-round picks for proven veterans, especially players of the caliber of Diggs and Slay. Those are risks worth taking, and especially so when you consider the fact that the draft is a crap shoot anyway.
The Broncos won’t likely carry 12 rookies on their roster in 2020, so why would they not entertain the idea of trading draft selections for proven veteran players?
Overall, the draft looks like this:
1. Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU
2a. Stefon Diggs, WR, Vikings
2b. Lloyd Cushenberry, OL, LSU
3a. Darius Slay, CB, Lions
3b. Saahdiq Charles, OT, LSU
3c. Quartney Davis, WR, Texas A&M
4a. Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona State
4b. Davon Hamilton, DL, Ohio State
5. Harrison Bryant, TE, Florida Atlantic
6. Jordan Fuller, S, Ohio State
7a. Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State
7b. Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming
7c. KJ Osborn, WR, Miami
This draft class pretty much accomplishes everything the Broncos need to this offseason, and even if you allocate roughly $35 million in total cap space to safety Justin Simmons, Stefon Diggs, and Darius Slay, there’s still a lot of room to work with and make big moves in free agency.
The Broncos could potentially pull off an offseason like this, and if even one of those veteran trades is possible, they should jump at the chance to shape a draft class like this.
