The big trades

Trade 1: 2020 2nd round pick, WR DaeSean Hamilton for Vikings WR Stefon Diggs

The Broncos will undoubtedly dip their toes in this year’s wide receiver pool. They would be stupid not to do so.

This year’s crop of receivers is one of the best we’ve seen coming out, but that doesn’t mean it is going to be easy for all of these guys to transition to the NFL level. Even in a stellar wide receiver class, is anyone the Broncos take in round two going to present the same value as Stefon Diggs?

No. They aren’t. Diggs is a proven stud receiver in the NFL with history in Pat Shurmur’s offense. He’s also only 26 and has four years on his contract at a good price for receivers in today’s market.

We discussed this possibility at length, and it’s an idea that makes a ton of sense for the Broncos.

One of my good pals on Twitter brought up the option to me about trading Hamilton in a package to get Diggs since Vikings OC Gary Kubiak was working in the Broncos’ front office when Hamilton was selected.

Trade 2: 2020 3rd round pick for Lions CB Darius Slay

Trading for a veteran like Darius Slay in this cornerback market is a complete steal for the Broncos.

Slay is a year younger than Chris Harris Jr., and still at the top of his game. The Broncos could get him for one year, $10 million and look to re-sign him to a longer deal afterward.

Slay’s productivity over the last three years has been outstanding and he’s truly developed into a shutdown cornerback in the NFL. The price of a third-round pick is going to seem steep for a guy with one year on his contract, but this would be a move made obviously with the longer-term in mind.

Trade 3: Trade down in 2020 1st round for 2020 1st-round pick, 2nd-round pick, future pick

After trading a second-round pick for Stefon Diggs, this scenario will have the Broncos making an almost identical trade to the one they made last year, sending the 10th pick to the Steelers for a 1st, 2nd, and future 3rd-round pick.

We’ll play around with just the later first and later second-round pick in this scenario.
