Adam Gotsis

Speaking of 2nd round “reaches”, Adam Gotsis was another early pick by the Broncos that was largely criticized.  For a guy that grew up in Australia and had a limited football background, many people thought that using a 2nd round pick on Gotsis was a gross overreach.

While he hasn’t become the kind of player that Wolfe has, Gostis has definitely proven to be a capable starter and effective role player in the NFL.

In his career as a Bronco, Gotsis has accumulated 109 tackles and 5 sacks with 28 starts. No, the stats aren’t impressive but what Gotsis excelled at is run defense. In Joe Woods’ defense, Gotsis emerged as an effective run stopping DE and a reliable defender on the edge.  Unfortunately for him, the coaching change in 2019 also resulted in a shift in defensive philosophy.

After a rough start to the 2019 season, Gotsis was essentially benched as part of a adjustment along the defense. He would eventually return to the field in a rotational role but his impact was not the same.

With Gotsis slated to be an Unrestricted Free Agent this spring, it appears that #99 is likely to be playing elsewhere in 2020. He just doesn’t appear to be a good fit for the defense and it may be best for him to find a team that can utilize him better.
