Broncos 2020 free agent target: ILB Danny Trevathan
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos are looking for a couple upgrades on the defensive side of the football. Could the team look to reunite with Danny Trevathan?
It is very rare for the Denver Broncos to reunite with players, at least as far as my knowledge is concerned. But perhaps a player like Danny Trevathan could be an interesting fit for both parties involved.
But wait a minute, the Broncos already have two starting inside linebackers. That is true, but there is a chance that John Elway decides to part ways with Todd Davis without losing a lot of money. As it stands right now, Davis’ contract has a potential out that the Broncos can exercise.
The Broncos have from now until March 18th to exercise the option of Todd Davis. If they are unable to or choose not to, Davis becomes an unrestricted free agent and Denver will have a hole to fill at inside linebacker.
Danny Trevathan could be a solid option for the Denver Broncos. It would give the team a chance at a reunion. After the Broncos won Super Bowl 50, the only reason that Trevathan did not come back came down to money. And at the time, the team was working on a big deal for Von Miller to get paid.
But Trevathan would be a solid coverage inside linebacker for the team. One that has been lacking since he joined the Chicago Bears in free agency. Speaking of Chicago, the move would also make sense since both Trevathan and Vic Fangio have worked together in Chicago.
A reunion in more ways than one could be beneficial for both parties. And teaming Trevathan with Alexander Johnson could really strengthen the inside linebacker position. I would completely be for this move if the Broncos decide to give this another shot.
Only time will tell if Danny Trevathan returns back to the orange and blue color scheme from where he started.
