Although Mekhi Becton is certainly not a carbon copy of Eric Fisher as a prospect (he’s probably a better overall prospect, actually), but he has a very high ceiling and could be a potentially dominant player as soon as year one in the NFL.

Although right now the idea is that the Broncos could very well try to stick with Garett Bolles for another season at the left tackle position, their philosophy in terms of upgrading here should be no different than it was with Rich Scangarello as the team’s offensive coordinator — if you see an upgrade, take it.

In the simulation I ran, Becton was available, and at this point in the process, there’s a very real chance he could be the top player on the Broncos’ board if he’s sitting there at 15 overall.

At 6-foot-7, 369 pounds, Becton is the definition of a dancing bear at the tackle position with exceptional athleticism for his size, as well as a devastating initial punch.

Based on his size alone, Becton makes it difficult for defensive players to get around him and get to the quarterback, and he could present the Broncos with an instant upgrade both in pass protection and run blocking.

This kind of pick would obviously push Bolles down the depth chart but could give the Broncos a great set of bookend tackles for the foreseeable future with Ja’Wuan James hopefully getting past his knee issues on the right side.
