As we sit here in the month of January, there’s a growing sense through some mock drafts what direction the Denver Broncos will go in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Some will not look at the Denver Broncos wide receiver position as one that needs to be upgraded with players like Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and DaeSean Hamilton.

Yet, despite Sutton’s Pro Bowl season the Denver Broncos struggled to find themselves a true number two or “1B” receiver in 2019. Heading into the new year and especially the 2020 NFL Draft, Denver will need to make wide receiver a priority throughout the draft.

It would not come as a surprise if the team doubled up on the position just like they did in the Sutton/Hamilton draft class (2018). The wide receiver position this year is regarded as one of the deepest it has ever been.

Despite arguments of taking that position later because of that depth, it should be strongly considered to do the same with one of their top two picks. The biggest reason for selecting a wide receiver early is due to the young quarterback Denver appears to have finally found.

There are two position groups that help make a quarterback happy and they are wide receiver and offensive line. In order to make Lock happy, Denver should look at the top wide receivers and snatch one of them.

One of the players they could target is regarded as a top wide receiver in the draft. If by chance Denver lucks into Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy falling to them at 15, then they will have tremendous value and impact for a player that is perfect in the offense run by Pat Shurmur.

Jeudy is a yards after the catch, route running machine coming out of Alabama. Some were noticing the route running of Jeudy even a few years ago before he declared. Another trait that stands out with Jeudy is he has amazing hands to catch anything thrown his way.

The largest argument for taking a wide receiver high is due to drafting a player with the need for speed. There are others who could fill that void, but by the luck of the draw if Denver lands Jeudy, they would probably be thrilled.

The draft is about having the board fall to you and determining who is best available to take with the pick. If Jeudy is there at 15 it will be very difficult to pass up on his talent. Jeudy would force other teams to game-plan on someone not named Sutton every Sunday.

If it is Jeudy time in Denver, Broncos Country will be smiling ear to ear.
