Looking for a new contract, Denver Broncos defensive lineman Shelby Harris has hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent ahead of free agency.

Defensive lineman Shelby Harris had a career year for the Denver Broncos in 2019, just in time for free agency.

Harris has hired Drew Rosenhaus to represent him.

Rosenhaus is one of the better-known agents across the NFL. He has represented NFL players such as Antonio Brown andPlaxico Burress.

Harris made $3,095,000 in base salary in 2019. While he isn’t necessarily a player who will earn top dollars, he should see an increase in salary in his next contract—and that becomes more likely now that he has decided to go a different direction in his agent choice.

During the 2019 season, Harris recorded 49 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 9 passes defended, 8.0 tackles for loss. All of those statistics were a career-high for Harris.

The Broncos ranked in the middle of the league in rushing yards allowed in 2019 with 111.4 rushing yards allowed per game. Notable running backs that the team had good or great games against were: Bears RB David Montgomery (18 rushes, 62 yards), Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (12 rushes, 31 yards), Titans RB Derrick Henry (15 rushes, 28 yards), and Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (11 rushes, 26 yards, touchdown).

While there were other contributors in those games, Harris absolutely made his presence known. In the game against the Minnesota Vikings, Harris sacked quarterback Kirk Cousins three times. Against the Jaguars, he recorded a season-high six tackles.

As Sayre Bedinger wrote, the Broncos have Shelby Harris high on their list of free agent priorities. They also have players such as safety Justin Simmons and Chris Harris Jr. to take care of, although it seems likely that the Chris Harris Jr. will get a pay raise somewhere else.

Whatever happens in free agency, however, the Broncos want to keep these core players around. Shelby Harris wants to cash in. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. It should be interesting.
