Denver Broncos: Possible replacements for Chris Harris Jr
Acquire via Trade
Darius Slay, Detroit Lions
Darius Slay is set to become a free agent following the upcoming season (2021 calendar year). For the 2020 season, the Lions have $13,368,750 invested in him against the salary cap.
There could be something here in terms of a trade if the Lions want to get rid of his final year’s salary. However, this would mean that the Denver Broncos would have to offer him an extension if they wanted to keep him for more than one year (which they should, if they acquire him).
This one definitely feels like a long shot but hey, you never know.
Patrick Peterson, Arizona Cardinals
This one is the most intriguing. While this type of trade would require a lot of ammunition, it very well could be worth it. Peterson has been a top-level cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals since being drafted in 2011.
How could the Broncos not be interested in making this move? They would be losing a great cornerback in Chris Harris Jr., but would get Peterson instead.
Well, the Broncos were unwilling to match what Harris Jr. wanted in terms of a contract extension but maybe Peterson, who is entering the last year of his contract, will be able to agree with the team on a new deal.
