Vic Fangio

Although Vic Fangio himself did not coach a bad game, he made a costly decision that could have cost the team the game.

Prior to the Raiders’ last scoring drive, Fangio was faced with a tough decision: would he send punter Colby Wadman out, or would he send his kicker, Brandon McManus, out to attempt a 51 yard field goal try, his career long?

It appeared that Fangio would send Wadman out to punt, or perhaps, McManus would go out and “pooch punt” the ball, in hopes to catch the Raiders’ special teams off guard. However, following a conversation between Fangio and McManus in which McManus appeared to plead his case to kick the field goal, and Fangio appeared to not give the green light, Fangio made a surprising decision to send him out anyway.

McManus would miss, and give the Raiders prime field position to score their first and only TD.

McManus will not see his stock drop, and he was the leading scorer of the contest. However, Fangio should not have sent him out in such a pivotal moment when it was apparent that he himself was not even confident in his choice.
