Shelby Harris

How the Denver Broncos would finish their 2019 season would come down to who could make one play count.

Current Bronco and former Raider Shelby Harris decided that he would be the one to make that play.

When the Oakland Raiders would tie the game with under one minute remaining, Jon Gruden made the decision to go for the two point conversion, not a surprising decision. He had likely already learned that with the Tennessee Titans’ victory over the Houston Texans, the Raiders had been eliminated from playoff contention.

Although the game now held zero playoff aspirations for either team, you could not ask for a more dramatic scene at Empower Field in Denver.

Broncos Country was on its feet, and the noise was deafening. The crowd would do everything in its’ power to assist the defense in making a play.

Truly, the momentum belonged to the Oakland Raiders. They had trailed since the second quarter, and had tied the game on a quick pass to Hunter Renfrow. They would not chance overtime; they were going to win or lose right here.

The ball was snapped; Derek Carr held onto it, looking for his man. The ball was thrown, and suddenly, the play was dead.

Shelby Harris had batted the ball down at the line of scrimmage; the conversion was no good, and the Denver Broncos were going to win.

Shelby Harris led all defensive linemen in batted passes in 2019, and his last of the season would prove to be a game winner.

Shelby Harris will be entering free agency, and if that is his last snap as a Denver Bronco, he sure made it a memorable one. However, what it should be, is another reminder as to why John Elway and Co. ensure that this man is retained.
