First round

As of right now, many mock drafts for the Denver Broncos involve an offensive lineman or wide receiver with their top pick.

Those aren’t wrong thoughts by any means, but in this scenario, the top OT prospects and top WR prospects were off the board and Epenesa was sitting there. I’m not so sure he would last this long in the actual draft, but we’re looking at all scenarios and I think Epenesa is a player I would have on Denver’s short list in this class for defenders worthy of a top pick.

Epenesa is 6-foot-6, 280 pounds, and already has a really well-rounded game. Vic Fangio’s defense is predicated on just a few guys getting pressure up front while the coverage holds up on the back end, so adding a player like Epenesa who can create in a variety of ways as a pass rusher as a defensive end would be really nice.

Add in the fact that both Derek Wolfe and Shelby Harris are free agents, and this might be the dream scenario for the Broncos depending on how free agency goes otherwise.

Epenesa is capable of playing defensive end in Fangio’s front with excellent length, play strength, discipline, and productivity as a pass rusher. Paired with Bradley Chubb at ROLB, Epenesa would give the Broncos a really tough duo on the weakside with Von Miller and pretty much anyone else on the strong side.

This is a playmaker off the edge who can rack up sacks and TFLs in bunches. He has enough speed and burst to create turnovers and Epenesa has always played with great instincts.

He’d be tremendous for Denver’s defense.
