Gift: 2020 offseason

‘Twas the week before 2020, and John Elway’s ‘to-dos’ did not include a head coach, not even a ‘Q’!

That’s right.

The Broncos are finally going into an offseason with a head coach and quarterback in place. This hasn’t happened since the team lost Super Bowl 48 to the Seattle Seahawks when Peyton Manning and John Fox returned for one more season together in 2014.

The Broncos also had the luxury of returning offensive coordinator Adam Gase that year, and they have the same luxury of bringing back offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello in 2020.

The last time the Broncos returned a head coach/quarterback combo with a player actually drafted by the team was back in 2006-07 with Mike Shanahan and Jay Cutler.

It’s been quite a while, Broncos fans.

Not only do the Broncos have their quarterback and head coach in place, but they also have a projected $65 million in cap space with another $10 million added to that if they release Joe Flacco, and another nearly $8 million if they decline Ron Leary’s team option, putting them over $80 million in cap space.

Oh and by the way — the Broncos also have five picks in the top 100 of the 2020 NFL Draft as well as seven picks in the first four rounds. They are projected for three more compensatory selections in 2020 as well.

The 2020 offseason is one of the greatest gifts the Broncos received in 2019.
