Gift: QB Drew Lock

We’re not trying to over-hype Drew Lock, although if you’ve been reading my stuff here at Predominantly Orange for any length of time, you know we’ve been on board the Lock train since he was a junior at Missouri.

Lock was a second-round pick of the Broncos, and I still can’t believe that to this day. Lock should have never been there in the second round. He was a first-round quarterback all the way from intangibles and arm talent to athleticism and college experience/production.

The Broncos lucked out getting Lock, one of the great gifts of the 2019 season, and that’s before we even got the chance to see him play.

Then Lock took the field for the first time at home against the Los Angeles Chargers…

Four starts later, it’s clear that the traits we all saw from Lock in college — arm talent, athleticism, football IQ, intangibles, experience, and everything else — are translatable to the NFL level.

The Broncos are 3-1 in Lock’s starts this season, their only loss coming in a game with horrible weather and field conditions on the road in Kansas City. No excuses, but that was a tough environment to go into.

Lock has led the Broncos to a win at home against their division rival Chargers, on the road in Houston against a playoff team, and now at home against the Detroit Lions where he played his first game without a turnover.

Merry Christmas, Broncos fans — we have a quarterback.
